Queen’s Guide to the Sands Cedric Robinson has passed away

It is with great sadness that we share the news that Cedric Robinson, the Queen’s Guide to the Sands has passed away at the age of 88.
Cedric was well known within the AONB, leading the famous cross-bay walks for 57 years. Cedric was the 25th (and the longest serving) appointed Guide to the Sands – a role which was established in 1548, and paid £15 per year. Cedric guided Prince Philip across the bay in 1985, and was responsible for leading 6,000 charity walkers a year. Cedric retired from his duties in 2019, and still joined the walks whenever he could.
Morecambe Bay is known for its fast rising tides, quicksand and shifting channels – the cross bay walk is a dangerous route without an expert guide. The Guide Over Sands Trust walks are now led by Michael Wilson, who took over as the new Queen’s Guide to the Sands in 2019.
