Natural fun at RSPB Leighton Moss

Keeping the family entertained during the summer holidays can often seem a daunting task. So what better way to enjoy those seemingly endless days of summer than by having a wild time at Leighton Moss nature reserve. Families looking for a great day out will discover lots of ways to explore the outdoors with a packed programme of fun events and activities all designed to entertain, educate and stimulate.
“Butterflies in the Barn” is a special event which gives visitors the chance to discover more about our fluttering friends and their amazing life cycle. Children can make a butterfly feeder to take away with them to help give nature a home where they live. Drop-in sessions take place on Wednesday 2 and 16 August, between 1 and 3pm.
Budding birdwatchers can visit “Birds in the Barn” on Wednesdays 9 and 23 August, where families can enjoy a fun orienteering session from the barn in the meadow at Leighton Moss. Drop-in between 1pm and 3pm.
Families are also invited to uncover “What Lives Beneath?” to find out what weird and wonderful wildlife lurks in the deep, on this special pond dipping event! Sessions run from 10.30am to 12.30pm and from 1.30pm to 3.30pm on Thursday 3 and 17 August.
Ever been on safari? “Minibeast Safaris” at Leighton Moss offer a chance to become wildlife explorers and experience the fascinating world of creepy crawlies! Drop-in on Thursday 10 and 24 August between 10.30am and 12.30pm or 1.30pm and 3.30pm for a fantastic safari adventure.
For the toddlers the lovely “Tots Tile Trail” is on offer, a self-led journey around the Leighton Moss sensory garden. Join this activity between 10.30am and 11.30am on Wednesday 2, 9, 16 and 23 and Thursday 3, 10, 17 and 24 August.
