Daily weather observations have been made in the AONB since the Landscape Trust decided to purchase their own ‘Davis Vantage Pro 2 plus’ weather station in 2013. It was installed at the AONB office on Arnside Station and was so interesting that a second station was subsequently purchased and installed at Warton’s Archbishop Hutton School.
We find it fascinating to track the fast changing weather conditions that occur locally and the two weather stations have provided us with a continuous, very high quality record of wind speed, wind direction, temperature, atmospheric pressure, rainfall and solar radiation. We are also grateful to Mike Warren for allowing us access to the data from his personal weather station which, while situated just outside the AONB at Heversham, is interesting for comparative purposes.
Current observations can be seen at https://www.weatherlink. com/or you can access the stations via the Weather Underground website at AONB Office, Archbishop Hutton School and Heversham. A local forecast from Weather Underground is available if you are planning a visit to the area in the next few days.
