There's lots going on in the AONB with a huge range of walks, talks and activities organised by a number of our partner organisations and local clubs and societies, all helping you discover more about the extraordinary landscape, amazing wildlife and rich heritage of the area.
Annual Hedgelaying Competition
Hedgerows are a characteristic feature of the landscape and whilst their primary function is to enclose land and livestock, provide shelter for crops and animals and prevent soil erosion, they are also very important for wildlife.
To help, support and encourage the retention of the skills necessary to look after our hedgerows, the AONB hosts an annual hedgelaying competition, the first of the winter’s grand-prix competitions of the Lancashire & Westmorland Hedgelaying Association.
Look out for the competitors in action today just outside Arnside on the B5282.
Parking is limited, but everyone is welcome to come and watch.
