New Inn – own a share of a pub!
February 4th, 2016
A community campaign to save one of the AONB’s most popular pubs – the New Inn at Yealand – is gathering pace. Villagers set up a not-for-profit company offering shares in the pub after current owners Robinson’s brewery shut it down and announced plans to divide the site for redevelopment.
Campaigners succeeded in having the pub listed as an “Asset of Community Value” (ACV) by Lancaster City Council, and now they have until 29 February to raise £300,000 to buy and reopen the New Inn, a listed building dating back to the 1680’s.
“It’s a race against time,” said chairman of the community company, Sandy Sanderson. “The share offer closes at the end of February. The minimum investment is only £250 and villagers are digging deep but we would be really delighted to have some help from people in the wider AONB area.”
The aim is to make the New Inn a community owned but professionally run free house offering locally sourced food and quality beers and wines. It will become one of 40 community pubs throughout the country which are all trading successfully.
The business plan and share offer are both available on the website: www.newinnyealand.com or telephone Sandy Sanderson on 07802 913921
