Apple Day winners
October 7th, 2015
We were all winners at Apple Day on Saturday 3 October – the weather stayed fine and there were lots of fab activities for the whole family.
Our Apple Day Bake Off competition was a big success with lots of local people getting involved. Dorrie Galbraith, our ‘Mary Berry’ was really impressed with the quality of the entries.
Elinor Hunter was the winner in the young people’s category (£20 Lakeland voucher).
Mrs B took first prize in the pies category with her family favourite gluten free apple pie (£20 Lakeland voucher) and Joan Jackson took second place (Lakeland cook book).
Diane Mycock was the winner in the cakes category with a delicious spiced apple, plum and hazelnut cake (£20 Lakeland voucher), Joan Jackson was second with her apple loaf (Signed Paul Hollywood Bread book), and Karen Leslie was third with her apple cake (Lakeland cook book).
A huge thank you to Lakeland for donating such fabulous prizes.
Leftover cakes were donated to Lancaster and District Homeless Action Service who were delighted with the treats!
And congratulations to Silverdale’s Shirley Maso who won the free draw for the hamper of local produce at Apple Day. Shirley was delighted with her prize and really enjoyed her day in the orchard!
Thank you to all the local producers who donated the contents of the hamper – beers from Old School Brewery in Warton, damson cheese from Elliott’s chutneys, Bob Inn cafe for the delicious pie and cake, Orchard Barn for the fresh apple juice, Arnside Country Market for the jam, Cumbria Woodturners for the egg cup, Llewellyn’s honey for the honey, Sheila’s plants for the colourful pot plant and Mr and Mrs Sykes for the lovely wooden robin.
