Congratulations to Jack Carradice who won Best Hedge of the Day at the recent AONB Hedgelaying Competition.
The first of the Lancashire & Westmorland Hedgelaying Association Grand Prix events for 2014/15, the AONB Hedgelaying Competition is also part of our wider annual programme of training and events to support and promote traditional rural skills. A well-laid hedge will make the field stock-proof for the farmer and regenerate the hedge with new growth providing a wonderful haven for wildlife.
17 competitors took part, laying between 6 and 8 metres each in the traditional Westmorland style, with Andrew Kirkwood winning the Championship Class; Jack Carradice, the Open Class; and Karl Bell, the Novice Class.
