Work started on the site in January but progress was severely
delayed by the heavy rain and severe gales that have dominated the weather this winter.
Work on the masonary has been underway in ernest for about three weeks and the finishing touches
will be complete very soon.
The kiln is owned by the Woodland Trust and they have agreed
to the restoration work. Although the kiln looked in quite good condition
there were a significant number of problems which needed sorting out once
the overgrowth of scrub had been removed and the full extent of any problems
were finally visible.
The principal problem was the large top stones around the edge of the kiln
which were dislodged and needed lifting back into place.
The rebuilding work is being carried out by AJR Construction of
Yealand Redmayne. The kiln will also be more accessible following the work, as an
access path has been constructed to the site.
