The
Project set up a programme of improvements to the Rights
of Way network and accessibility, to enhance recreation
opportunities particularly for mobility impaired people
and horse-riders who are poorly catered for at present.
Only a few opportunities have been developed to establish
new routes, but a number of routes have been opened
up.
Additionally, the Project has increased
the range and provision of interpretation material,
which helps to increase everyones understanding of
the Limestone Heritage of the AONB, it's landscape
and the high wildlife value.

One possible route for disabled access in Arnside which
is yet to happen

The Project completed a boardwalk at Hawes
Water on Gait Barrows NNR, and improved the surface of several routes
in and around the reserve by Working closely with English Nature and
other neighbouring landowners. The boardwalk provides wheelchair access
over the marl grassland alongside this beautiful tarn.

A blue-badge holders
carpark has also been provided at the Moss Lane entrance to Gaitbarrows
to allow easy access to the National Nature Reserve.
The Project has
also helped organise and run the first AONB Tramper Day - an organised
7 mile accompanied ramble for persons using powered
off-road wheelchairs. Lancashire County Council, the RSPB, English
Nature, the AONB Service and a number of local landowners co-operated
to make
the event a big success for all participants.
