A field study visit at Warton Crag LNR

The AONB Unit has been working with University and College students for many years.

We welcome visits from young people and can help to plan and facilitate course work, research and work experience placements at a variety of levels including NVQs, Diploma and Degree courses and Postgraduate study.

If you are a lecturer or course supervisor and would like to organise a trip to the AONB, or have a academic project you think we could help with, please get in touch. We have developed supportive relationships with Liverpool John Moores University, University of Cumbria and Myerscough College over the years.

In addition we are able to offer access to a library of student dissertations and project work built up over the past 30 years, as well as reference books on all conservation matters. These are available for reference use during office hours.

Notes for students

The AONB Unit can offer assistance and advice to students doing projects and research in the following ways:

  • organise site visits, for example to look at examples of woodland or grassland management
  • host appropriate student placements
  • offer experience of practical management work through our volunteering programme
  • provide information and help with specific research projects where possible

Please note we cannot provide individual supervision or mentoring for students, unless they are on a formal placement with the AONB Unit.

Please do not approach us with general questions about conservation, wildlife, landscape or countryside management as there is a wealth of information available on this website and elsewhere that can help with this. Thank you.
