Formed in 1959 by a local group of keen bird watchers, Lancaster and District Birdwatching Society (LDBWS) has developed local check lists, bird-ringing and nest records. The purpose of the Society is, ‘to add the numerous observations of the less expert to those of the scientific workers and to encourage general interest in birds.’ Today the Society has over 200 members some of whom are involved in bird surveys in the area supporting the work of the British Trust for Ornithology (BTO) the RSPB and contributing records of breeding birds for the area Atlas. |

Indoor meetings are on the last Monday of the month from September to November and January to April. New members, young and old, and guests are always welcome to these talks and meetings. Details of speakers and venues are announced in the programme issued to members in September, in the newsletters and are advertised on the LDBWS website. Field trips are organised as joint outings with the RSPB Local Group. Details of these meetings and LDBWS Membership Form are also on the LDBWS website. The Society produces an Annual Report ‘Birds of Lancaster and District’ available from meetings (free to all LDBWS members) and from the RSPB Leighton Moss Visitor Centre, Silverdale. Local bird sightings are published daily on the LDBWS website www.lancasterbirdwatching.org.uk which also has photographs and a discussion page. |
