Sunshine on the AONB stand at the County Show

Last year's County Show marked the start of a year (and four months) long celebration of everything to do with woods and woodland in Cumbria and the Festival still has a few months to run.

The Festival had a dedicated section on the show field again this year. The weather was great and the Show attracted thousands of visitors. The Festival theme was "Trading with Trees" and the AONB stand was busy all day.

As part of the Festival, numerous woodland and forestry themed events up and down the county, have highlighted the important contribution woodlands make to the landscape and their role as carbon stores, nature reserves, renewable fuel source, economic resources and places for recreation.

Events have included guided walks, woodland workshops, tree days, woodfuel seminars, fun days for kids, coppice craft demonstartions and hands-on sessions. The Festival runs until December 2010, with the last big event being the Greenwood Fair to be at Leighton Hall in the Arnside and Silverdale AONB on 31st October 2010.
