Lucy Barron, AONB Manager, presenting the award to Martin Wain

The Bittern Award was given to the AONB in 2008 by Ian Henderson, to be presented annually to any person, or group of people, who has done more than their ‘fair share’ over the past year to conserve and enhance the area. This year the award went to Martin Wain of Butterfly Conservation in recognition of his outstanding contribution. Martin has carried out fantastic work to really make things happen on the ground, engaged successfully with a range of audiences and partners and worked successfully with quite a number of landowners, getting them on side and actively contributing to the conservation and enhancement of the AONB.

The National Association for AONBs annual prize (the Bowland Award) was this year also presented to Butterfly Conservation.
