Arnside & Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is an extraordinary place, a place that people love for its stunning scenery, amazing wildlife and dramatic sunsets. It is full of natural spectacles, incredible views and a surprise around every corner. From the simple beauty of the fly orchid to the shining sands of the Bay, the area is simply awe-inspiring. This Annual Review describes the important work that the AONB team has carried out in the last year to conserve and enhance this internationally important landscape. The area is buzzing with activity, with a whole range of innovative activities and projects helping to look after and improve the area, enabling people to enjoy it and encouraging communities and the economy to grow sustainably. Partnership working helps to unlock significant resources and our four local authorities South Lakeland District Council, Lancaster City Council, Cumbria County Council and Lancashire County Council are key members of the AONB Partnership because of their statutory duty to have regard to the purpose of the AONB. They provide financial contributions which lever additional monies from Natural England (up to March 2011) and now Defra, enabling our work to take place. Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty are vibrant, dynamic functioning landscapes that help underpin the health and wellbeing of society. They are locally managed but nationally important and the work of the AONB team here is making a real difference for this area and its future. Jack Ellerby Acting Chairman of the AONB Partnership |
