A strong local partnership works together to conserve and enhance the Area's special qualities. The AONB Unit undertakes and facilitates active
countryside management and seeks to involve everyone in the area's protection, while raising awareness of why the AONB is so special.
Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty in England and Wales are designated under statutory provisions, to conserve and enhance the natural beauty of the area's landscape.
There are 38 AONBs in England and Wales with a further 9 in Northern Ireland. They are all members of the AONB Family, which covers 8000 square miles of the finest countryside.
